Growing Old

Boyfriend went out on a pay day social last night and had arranged to have dinner beforehand with his old house mates from Uni. I buzzed him in at 00.30 which was quite early considering his history of pay day socials (he's usually back way later). The one thing he said before drifting off into sleep was:

"We've changed sooo much since our Uni days. We used to talk about where we were going, where the fittest girls would be and all saying we wouldn't bother turning up to lectures, hospitals the next day so we could get absolutely pissed but now...

...I found myself talking to T about us heading off home early to make sure we wouldn't be late for surgery in the morning, that the wine wasn't a nice year and also.... Listen to this Ems: I asked him, I asked him, if he and A had found Phil & Ted to be a good brand. I mean, we're having dinner at a restaurant and this is what we talk about... Jeeesus - we're getting old, aren't we?"

I was in no position to laugh, I'd gotten into bed at ten.

Cool Kitty-Cat

I was sneaking a peek at the Telegraph's website during work today and found this article about a cat catching the bus every day for a ride. It's really sweet and it made my day a lot better!

You can read the article here.

Let's all say it together now; Awwwww!

Nintendo causes stress

Man, I'm totally stressed out. It's a quiet Friday night in due to the flu I've had for the past 4 days and even though it's been painful and boring I've had no taste for food at all which means I feel slightly slimmer than 4 days ago. Granted, it'll come back asap when I start eating again but I'm not complaining.

4 days off work, feeling slim-ish and the weekend has barely started... why am I stressed?!

Well, Boyfriend came up with the idea that since none of us fancied any of the movies we have (or rather I didn't fancy his and he didn't fancy any of mine) we ought to play Wii Mario Kart. As I am such a good loser and do not use expletives at all (hhmmm)

Let's face the facts - I'm a horrible, horrible loser and I swear too much and too often and Wii Mario Kart only makes it so much worse but Yoshi is so cute and it's actually good fun. But Boyfriend will probably not ask me to play again anytime soon. I, afterall, beat him in the last "cup"... [insert a very high picthed "YEEEEES!" here]

Babysitting

... or How to Turn the Cushions

A few days ago I wrote about an old movie Adventures in Babysitting and guess what? I am actually babysitting tonight and I can't help but ponder over what types of adventure the little boy is going to introduce me to. Hopefully I won't be chased by some shady car thieves, or have to walk on a beam high up and not crash a fratparty ... oh wait a minute- The party, that I can do (as long as I'm in bed by 10pm - one way or another).

To be fair, I doubt little H will me into that kind of trouble as he is only a bit over 4 months- it's far more likely that he'll poop all over the place and leaving me trying to figure out how to put a nappy/diaper on - those sticky things are tricky!! Maybe au natural is better but I doubt his parents would agree with their beige sofa...

Mamma Mia

Boyfriend and I went to Cineworld last night and watched Mamma Mia - the movie. It's a nice, happy film and if you like Abba's music, then this is something for you. I haven't seen the musical and I don't think I need to now. And yes, there are some cringe-worthy moments and sometimes the transition from talking ot singing can be a bit coarse but it works as a whole and there are some definite perks about seeing it;

Colin Firth is so sexy that I'm almost unable to sit still whenever he's on the screen. Meryl Streep is looking radiant and the whole cast is funny and if you leave without smiling then you're a miserable f**k.

The only bad thing about Mamma Mia is Pierce Brosnan. Not only is he as slimier than ever but. Oh. My. God! Did they not check their singing abilities?! Cos Brosnan sure as hell can't sing. I'd be inclined to say that the man is bordering on being extremely tone-deaf.

And I'm willing to say that Firth isn't a great singer but it had substance and unlike Brosnan it wasn't totally flat. Whenever Brosnan opened his mouth I experienced a toe-curling moment. Not to mention that his American accent was appalling (boyfriend didn't even realise that Brosnan was supposed to be American) and surely they should have been able to find a middleaged American actor with a decent singing voice??

Anyway, I left the place laughing and feeling total bliss as I had heard some good music (not just the worn out Abba songs) and Colin Firth.

Did I say that I think he's fantastic?

When Friends Grow Up

So, our friends T&A have now become a little family of 3. And what a family they are! A gorgeous little baby boy "H" who slept in my arms and made me think "yeah - this is it".

I think this is the best role I've seen T in. Being a dad suits him. A is already going for long walks - 4 days after giving birth. She's my new hero.

Awww - I want one!

I Need A Dog

I have my eyes set on a dachshund puppy... It's won't be tomorrow or in the next few months but it has to happen. I'm even contemplating flying home for a weekend just to see Cherry - that's how dog-sick I am.
